Miracle Linux Corporation (Headquarter: Higashishinbashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo Japan, President: Takeshi Sato; Hereafter referred to as Miracle Linux), has applied for "ISO/IEC 15408 Evaluation criteria for IT security" *1 certification (hereafter ISO/IEC 15408), an international security evaluation criterion with the Information-Technology Promotion Agency (IPA) Security Center, a domestic screening agency as an independent administrative agency. When certified by the end of December 2006, the company is expected to be the first certified domestic OS vendor in Japan.
ISO/IEC 15408 is an international evaluation criterion that assesses whether products and systems related to information technology are designed appropriately from the standpoint of security, and whether or not the design is correctly implemented. Japanese information processing vendors are actively involved in this standard, and are promoting it as a way of providing products and systems with a high level of safety. Furthermore, ISO/IEC 15408 certified products are eligible for the IT investment tax reduction (tax incentive to help strengthen information infrastructure for business *2) that is advocated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which is spurring acquisition of ISO/IEC 15408 certification in domestic companies.
Certification of ISO/IEC 15408 by Miracle Linux this time will demonstrate that their MIRACLE LINUX can withstand external attacks, and maintains exceptional robustness with regards to security. It is expected that by passing ISO/IEC 15408 certification, MIRACLE LINUX will become a highly rated, commonly used OS internationally as well as domestically, and that opportunities for its use in government projects will increase. From the perspective of user corporations, Miracle Linux will contribute to cost savings due to eligibility for the IT investment tax reduction, which will be another relief to the users.
Miracle Linux is listed on the IPA's "Evaluation/Certification Pending List".

*1 About ISO/IEC 15408 Evaluation criteria for IT security:
An evaluation criterion that assesses whether products and systems related to information technology are designed appropriately from the perspective of security, and whether or not that design is correctly implemented. It is based on a common criteria (CC) developed by a CC project composed of seven agencies in six Western countries. It was approved as an ISO/IEC standard in June 1999, and enacted as JIS X 5070 in July 2000. This set of standards has enabled the systematic evaluation from various perspectives of the security features of IT related products.
*2 About the "tax incentive to help strengthen information infrastructure for business":
