New Miracle Linux and Oracle Clustering Technology Behind CyberMap Japan's Mapion, the Next-Generation Online Map Service
- High-Speed Location Information Service Made Possible by Linux -

CyberMap Japan Corp., a provider of Mapion, Japan's largest online map search service accessed by 6 million internet users every month, announces the release of the next generation of its Mapion system product, employing Dell PowerEdge-Server and Dell|EMC CX300 Network Storage systems. The new system is equipped with MIRACLE LINUX V3.0 - Asianux Inside, Oracle Real Application Clusters 10g and Oracle Location-Based Services (LBS) framework, Oracle's latest database clustering technology and location information service solution. Jointly developed by K.K. Ashisuto, Dell Japan Inc., Oracle Corporation Japan and Miracle Linux Corporation, the product is scheduled for full launch in early November.

CyberMap Japan's Mapion allows users to search for maps using only mailing addresses or station names and offers a wide range of travel information such as accommodations and sightseeing spots. It is the largest online map search service site in Japan with seven million hits a day. In addition to providing map information, the company has developed more user-friendly services for its next version by offering real-time information that meets user needs, such as locating available parking facilities.

The backbone database for Mapion requires a 24/7 stable operation, availability with a downtime of less than 5 minutes per year and scalability to handle without deterioration in response time the large increase in users that are likely soon after conversion to the new service. In order to fulfill these requirements at a low cost, CyberMap Japan has decided to employ MIRACLE LINUX V3.0 - Asianux Inside, which is highly compatible with Oracle products, along with Oracle Real Application Clusters 10g for Linux and, for its high-speed location information service, Oracle's LBS. Coordinated support in system development and past performance by Ashisuto, Dell, Oracle Japan and Miracle Linux were also major factors in CyberMap Japan's decision.

Once the system conversion is complete, a new foundation for providing next-generation services will be firmly in place. This will enable flexible search services that can meet the needs of rapidly expanding businesses and various other requirements.
