Official Signing Redflag Software, Miracle Linux and Haansoft for Co-development of "Asianux"

21st Oct 2004, Seoul, Korea: China's Red Flag Software, Japan's Miracle Linux and Korea's Haansoft were gathered at Seoul's COEX on October 21 to sign an official agreement to jointly-develop "Asianux", in hopes to achieve a standard form of Linux in the Northeast Asian region. The ceremony attracted a wide spectrum of attendants ranging from government agencies, corporations, educational institutions, and Linux communities.

The joint-development will take place in the Linux Joint Development Center of Oracle's China Development Center in Beijing with each company sending at least two full-time developers. Under the agreement, Asianux 2.0 OS (operating system) will be jointly-developed among the three companies beginning in January 2005 and released in September 2005. Haansoft will package it as Haansoft Linux 2005, Redflag as Redflag 4.2, and Miracle Linux as Miracle Linux V4.0. All three companies will have "Asianux Inside" marked on their respective packages.

With Haansoft as the host of the ceremony, President & CEO Jong Jin Baek stated in his opening remarks that "the recent MOU signing along with today's official signing of 'Asianux', Haansoft endeavors to establish a new reliable platform to be independent of a certain dominant platform".

During the first presentation from Miracle Linux's President, Takeshi Sato, he commented that 'Haansoft's participation has enabled "Asianux" to become a real Asian standard Linux'. Some of the points that were covered included the history, philosophy, vision and benefits of Asianux as well as the recent trend of Linux servers in Asia. In regards to Japan's market size, the portion of Linux's market share at the end of last year was 9% and that it would reach 17.8% by 2008.

Ensuing Miracle Linux was Redflag's President Chris Zhao in which he discussed the significance of Asianux and China's Linux market. Mr. Zhao also emphasized the strong support from the Chinese government exemplified by the e-government project of 33 billion yuan. Other topics included the potential Linux market size for China and Redflag's market position. It was also pointed out that China's Linux market size would grow at an average rate of 46.7% during the next five years.

The presentation session concluded from Haansoft's Kwang Jei Cho of the Business Integration Division. Although Korea's Linux market in relatively small in comparison with other nations, he underlined Haansoft's role to "trigger" the growth of Korea's Linux market. In general, all three companies accented the significance of "Asianux" becoming the Linux standard in Northeast Asia.
